NEW AMAZON PHISHING EMAILS

Recently GDS has received a couple of emails from Amazon.com. Now being where I am, I don't deal with Amazon.com, so alarm bells rang and coupled with several other suspicious traits, it was clear these were PHISHING emails. Fortunately this was from a 'Junk' account I keep (for signing up to odd sites with something that looks interesting but requires subscription). The account needless to say attracts all sorts of rubbish, porn, viagra, loans etc.. I digress, the purpose of this item is to show the emails entitled
email 1 'Amazon.com - Your Cancellation (nn-nnn-nnn)'
AND
email 2 'Amazon.com - Your Cancellation (nn-nnn-nnn)'
Below is the response I received from Amazon on a chat line
You are now connected to Goutham from Amazon.com. Title:Spam emails
Me:Hi
Goutham:Hello, my name is Goutham. I'll be glad to help you today.
Me:I have received several emails supposedly from you with the title Order Cancelled Are you aware of this email
Goutham:The e-mail you received wasn't from Amazon.com.
We recommend that you delete the e-mail. For your protection, do not respond to it, and do not open any attachments or click any links it contains.
We also recommend running anti-virus or anti-malware software whenever you receive a suspicious e-mail, especially if you opened an attachment or visited a web site that was linked in the e-mail.
Me:I shall tell my clients and post it on my website Thank You for your help Goutham . So there you have it, DELETE THE EMAIL AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T CLICK ON THE NUMBER LINK (The Underlined 38-839-388 type number) OR YOU WILL BE SORRY

How to Map a Network Drive

Hi People

Do you have a particular folder you wish to access outside of a program for storage and retrieval of documents, pictures, spreadsheets or some other data?

One method is to create a shortcut.  This allows you to access the folder and retrieve documents, modify them, but not directly save new files to the folder.

Another method would be to use a Network Drive.  What this means is that you actually create a virtual drive.  This is done by creating a link to the actual folder directly.

So first, if you have not got a suitable folder, create it where you want to store the data.  Now this can be on another system or on a USB drive or even if you want to, on your existing system.  This has the advantage that when you wish to save a file or folder, you can send it to a drive letter by using the right click and 'Send to' option.

Note down where the folder is.  Now locate and run Explorer.  To do this in:

XP

Click 'start' then 'Run' and type explorer into the box
Find the Tools menu in the memu bar and locate 'Map a network drive'

.

You will now have a box like the one in the picture above

Vista and Windows 7

Click the 'Start Button' and then 'Computer'.  At the top of the window you will see 'Map Network Drive', click on it

-----------------------
A similar box to the picture above is shown.  So setting a couple of items will setup the network drive.

You can leave the 'Drive' box as Y: and use the .
'Browse...' button to locate the folder you wish to use

Click 'OK' and then the 'Finish' button.

All done so now you can select the new network  drive when you want to by selecting its letter from the list of available drives in most situations (try right clicking the file or folder you wish to save and select the 'Send to' option - your network drive will be listed).

You can create upto 22 network drives (assuming A/B are for disc drives-use to be Floppy A and B- C is usually - but not always - the hard drive - single physical with one partition - D is usually - again not always - the optical drive - CD/DVD/BD)

That's all for now

What are your dislikes about the Internet

Hi People

The Internet is growning at a phenomenal rate.  It is growing so many branches.  Social Media aside, you have the shopping facet, the information facet, the email facet and access to downloads of all sorts of goodies (paid and free).

Of course this opening up of the vast social media playground,  has left everyone exposed to the nasty side of the internet, but I am not going to go down that route.

Look at this link

http://www.pcworld.com/article/207601-2/8_things_we_still_hate_about_the_web.html

The article voices concerns over a number of

Many have concerns about the internet, based around identity theft.

Placing so much personal information on the internet, in the care of impersonal servers, run by people (who I am sure are totally trustworthy and very pleasant human beings) that are watching the stats, and angling for more subscribers.

There has to be a limit on what they can oversee and protect.

Consider the same scenario as a creche or nursery, there has to be a ratio of carers/teachers to youngsters.

If this situation were applied to the server farm that you have graciously allowed to harbour your intimate details, then there would likely be a air of major concern.

Whilst many reading this are probably thinking 'scare mongering', but time will show if the incidence of identity theft rises exponentially on not, as the social networking storm reaches out to all corners of planet earth.

With sincere hopes that this is not the case, because it will start to turn, (what is truely a wonderful way to communicate with all peoples of race, culture and creed), the medium into a worldwide black market.
